In the last quarter of last year, credit card usage has increased. Oddly, banks are not too excited about the idea. It is a known fact that various banks and credit card companies want to have as many credit card users and they want the consumers to keep on using their cards. This time it is a different story because experts say that people are depending more on their credit cards to delay paying in cash.
Banks are beginning to become stricter with the credit card applications and are only offering credit cards to consumers that are already connected with them.
The biggest problem that banks are seeing is the rise in delinquency rates when people use their cards more due to not being able to obtain other types of credit.
Interest rates keep rising; monthly interest rates for the outstanding are currently at three to three and a half percent. Annual rate is over fifty percent.

A public hearing was held by the Starpoint School Board to tackle the request of home schooling parents to have their kids participate in the district’s ‘intramurals’ and extracurricular activities.
According to one parent, the Cheektowaga, Maryvale and Grand Island school allowed home schooled students to join in their extracurricular activities. By doing so, it will bridge the public school and the home schooling families. If and when families decide to go back to the public school, transferring will be much easier for kids.
Another parent said that home schooled students sometimes feel marginalized. If they are allowed to join the district’s extracurricular activities, it would really make them feel they belong. They generally do well academically because they can easily be provided with the best math, science, writing lessons etc, if they fall short in any subject. He adds that extracurricular activities such as sports can be a little expensive.
The members of the board thanked the parents for participating in the meeting. Members have promised to take this into consideration. They said that they will look into this issue and formulate policies for the program.

Sugar Grove can now say goodbye to the roaring sound of the train’s air horn. Quiet zones will soon begin construction as local officials gave it a green light under the local rail-highway safety program.
It had been a long two years before this was approved; a lot of planning, pushing of bids and documentation with the Federal Railroad Administration had to ensue. This project is said to be completed immediately. The project costs about thirty thousand dollars that will pay for quiet zone signs and concrete barriers. The concrete barriers will be erected along the main street and Dugan road.
The barriers are an elevated concrete that is six by six inches thick. They will be extended six feet to the north and thirty feet to the south of Sugar Grove’s rail road tracks. The residents can’t wait for the day when they will be able to sleep soundly at night.

Finally, there is a bill that will benefit credit card carrying citizens and it is on it’s way to the Senate. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s Credit Cardholder’s Bill of Rights has just passed the house, it has been voted a very convincing three hundred twelve to one hundred twelve. It only needs to pass the Senate and the President’s approval before consumer’s benefit from it. And from the looks of things this will become a reality pretty soon.
The Federal Reserve stated that credit card companies have been deceptive and anti competitive for the longest time. The bill will help credit card owners get a fair deal from credit card companies. It will prevent credit card companies from making unfair strategies such as changing interest rates regardless if you have a typically good account.
What congresswoman Maloney’s bill accomplished clearly communicates how people are fed up with the unfair practices of credit card companies. With this new development still progressing, it is very likely that we’ll get to see better credit card offers in the future.

In most families, spouses generally do not handle money the same way. The husband can be accustomed to saving money all his life and the wife can be more of a spender; or it can be the other way around. Problems can arise from these differences and it is something that should be resolved as early as possible.
It is a given that sustaining a family finance is important. But being able to spend your own money whenever and however you like is important as well. To resolve these issues, applying for a joint account for the family’s savings can bu put in place, an individual checking account for the husband and the wife can be used as each one’s source of funding.
This will prevent arguments over why the other is spending too much over something. If one wants to use his/her ‘personal’ money to purchase a car, while the other wants to use it to purchase home appliances, that can be done without any complications. Husband can save as much as he’d like, wife can spend as much as she’d like, and both not using up the family’s savings.

For Montgomery County parents, home schooling has become a popular choice to educate their children. According to Montgomery County Public Schools and the Maryland State Department of Education, yearly, almost two thousand five hundred students are home schooled. It has been that way for almost six years. According to a non-profit advocacy group, around two million students are home schooled in the country today.
For many parents the decision to home school differ from family to family, but what can be seen as a general factor is that the kids learn at home rather than in a school setting. Some other reasons include: being able to provide a pace that their child is comfortable with; having the belief that they can do a better job at educating their child, being a able to custom fit the lessons according to the child’s needs, may it need more math, science or writing lessons to improve on a specific subject.
One other benefit that parents feel is very important is self motivation. Children learn to think critically, instead of lessons being spoon fed, home schooled children develop a drive to learn and find answers to problems for themselves.
Records show that home schooling perform well academically. The Fraser Institute records show that home schooled students score in the eighty fifth percentile on tests, compared to public school students score which is in the fiftieth percentile.
